How to Create and Manage Groups

Overview

Create a group when you want to send the same message to many contacts. With Shout you begin a unique conversation with each contact in the group at the same time. You can use group messaging to send special offers to your customers, send weekly reminders to your team, and more.

Shout conversations are always between you and one contact.

Step 1: Create a Group

  • Click on People in the left navigation to show a drop down menu
  • Click Groups
  • Click the blue button at the top left of the screen
  • Name the group and click Save

Your account automatically has two groups created for you – Team and Customer. Team members will love hearing from you regularly, looking for your guidance and encouragement. Customers will likely want less frequent, value-oriented messages.

Step 2: Assign Contacts to a Group

  • Click on People in the left navigation to show a drop down menu
  • Click Groups
  • Choose the group that you would like to assign contacts to
  • Click the blue button at the top left of the screen
  • Select the contacts you want to add to the group
  • Scroll to the bottom and click Save Contacts
  • You can also add contacts to a group from their contact profile.
  • Bots can add and remove contacts from groups. Learn how here.

Step 3: Send a Message to a Group

  • Click on People in the left navigation to show a drop down menu
  • Click Groups
  • Click Message next to the group that you want to send a message to
  • Select service
  • Draft your message

You can also send a message by going to the groups page, click the message button, and compose your message. Hit send or schedule for later.

Step 4: Remove Contacts from a Group

  • Click on People in the left navigation to show a drop down menu
  • Click Groups
  • Select the appropriate group
  • Identify the person you want to remove and select •••
  • Click Remove from Group

Bots can manage contacts in a group with the Add to Group and Remove from Group actions.
